6) Disagreements with article 1

This article discusses the negative things that can come with teens using social networking sites. It descirbe's them as being 'time wasting and socially isolating' something which i do no agree with them, if anything i strongly disagree. When learning about Jean Lave and Etienne Wenger idea of communities of practice it became apparent to me that not only can cop's take place offline, but also online too. Some teens may find it hard to communicate offline with others, however they may find communicating with many people from many different backgrounds extremely easy. Having learned about 'digital immigrants' as placing the author under the category as one, one could argue that they have no idea what it is like communicating online, and that we, as teens, may find it easier.
In addition, if business' and education are wanting to take it a step further by using this new technology to the extreme then is it really 'time wasting' at all? Are we as users doing anything wrong if we are familiarising ourselves with today's modern technology and using web 2.0/web 3.0 to the extreme?

  1. You do get a sense of CofP from these netwroking sites and just because they are different doesn't mean they are necessarily wrong.

You could argue the idea of socio-determinsm and because of people's busy life styles, communication has needed an advancement in technology and this is emphasised through the idea of netwroking sites
