Topic 1 - b) Online Persona's

Lister see's identity, through CMC, 'as anything but essential or fixed' and that 'identity is constructed through discourse'. Something which i think is right. You can be who you want to be on the inet, however it can be argued that depending on what site you are on, can depend on your identity. Your identity can be determined not only through you screen name, handle or avatar , but also by your picture. If a lady is in a chatroom with the name 'love machine' and her cleavage being her screen picture, are you trying to tell me that she is just wanting a friendly conversation? No, she is there to flirt and to be flirted with. I remember playing poker on facebook once, and i had a picture of me and my friend messing around on a lamppost swinging ourselves around it. Now, i had no intention to flirt or be flirted with, however this picture brought me attention that i did not want and having realised it i changed my profile picture.

However, back to Lister. He proposes this question 'Who are we when we are online?' i even asked myself this, to see who i was when i was online. I'd like to think i am just myself, however i feel I'm a more confident self, if i found something difficult to say something i would say it on the inet. What self do you think you are online?
