As Napoleon saw the press as '7th great power,' Goebbel saw the radio as being the 8th. He see's the radio as something that can not only help the government, but the other civilians also. Goebbel wanted to transform the soceity and to change the nation and he believed that the radio could do just that. He believed that this new technology (at that time) would be able to help the goverment, he stated that the this 'modern method' would influence the 'masses.'
In some way i agree with Goebbel, although on the other hand, I feel that the radio is no longer a 'modern method.' Yes, it is still a good form of communication, however, technology has created new media. Television and the internet being two extremely good for the use of the government. Although the television was created long before the internet, it has come a long way since it was invented and is forever modernising to suit it's audience at the time. The internet also is forever progressing, always thinking of new modern ideas. Although, in comparison to Goebbel's idea of how the radio can help the goverment, in this day and age you find that the media will publish things about the government whether it is for or against, which can therefore create a bad image for them.

I totally agree hannah, he makes some strong points and i believe the power that it did have but times have changed. The are other mediums to support the nations needs like you said.
ReplyDeletei also agree with this hannah, i think this pretty much sums up my view on it aswell. New media is so competitive, as time advances so does the ideas to do with new media. This shows that society is never content with the new media, they are always trying to push the boundaries.
ReplyDeleteNice to see a bit of a conversation starting, but (as I said on Claire's blog) if you respond try and move beyond just agreeing (or not). If you unpack someone's blog, sentence by sentence or point by point, for instance, you'll find more to respond to.
ReplyDeleteSo, Hannah, why do you think TV and the internet are good for the government, Hannah? these media are indeed forever evolving (while staying the same) but does this make them more influential? And finally, is there any quality of radio that might make it particualry effective where TV and the internet alone aren't?
Keep up the good work!
